Winners of the 2024 Concert Artists Guild Competition and one of the most exciting young ensembles on the national scene, the Poiesis Quartet brings their radiant energy and “extraordinary, honeyed group sound” (Cleveland Classical) to Noe Music in their San Francisco debut. This captivating program traverses bold sonic landscapes—from Brian Raphael Nabors’ rhythmically charged celebration of vitality to the lyrical depths of a brand-new commission by Kevin Lau. Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate’s Pisachi draws on the rich traditions of his Chickasaw heritage in music of vibrant storytelling, followed by Sky Macklay’s Many Many Cadences, which turns classical convention on its head with wit and invention. The journey concludes with Prokofiev’s Second String Quartet, a spirited wartime work steeped in the folk melodies of the Caucasus.
Presented in collaboration with the Emerging String Quartet Program at Stanford University
